Troubleshooting AI agent connections

What to do when an agent cannot connect, cannot reach a workspace, or stops working.

The agent can't connect, or never opens Spectr

  • Check the address is exactly https://mcp.spectr.pm/mcp, ending in /mcp.
  • Check your agent supports remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in. One that only runs local servers, or only takes an API key, can't connect.
  • If a sign-in window should have opened and didn't, allow pop-ups for your agent and try again.

"This connection can't continue"

Spectr shows this when the sign-in request from your agent was not valid or has expired: a request is good for 10 minutes. Start the connection again from your agent rather than reloading the page.

Spectr says it can't confirm who made the app

Spectr marks an app as verified only when it identifies itself from a known agent maker's website. An app that gives only its name gets this warning, and some well-known agents connect that way, so the warning alone doesn't mean something is wrong. Connect if you started this from your agent just now; otherwise choose Cancel.

"This connection is not allowed in that workspace"

You didn't choose that workspace when you connected. Disconnect the agent on User Settings → Connections and connect it again, choosing all your workspaces or ticking this one.

"Your role in this workspace doesn't allow this"

Your agent asked for something your role can't see in Spectr either, such as billing activity, which is for admins and owners. A workspace owner or admin can change your role. See who can use each tool.

It worked before and has stopped

The connection has ended. That happens when:

  • you, or someone with your password, disconnected it;
  • your password was reset, which disconnects every agent;
  • it wasn't used for 90 days;
  • you connected the same agent more than 10 times (on several machines, say), which retires the least recently used.

Connect it again from your agent. If you're removed from a workspace, your agent loses that workspace too, and reconnecting won't bring it back.

The same agent appears several times on the Connections page

Each time you approve an agent it gets its own connection, so the same agent on two computers shows twice. Disconnect the ones you no longer use.

Answers about large lists are incomplete

A very large result is shortened, with a note telling the agent how to ask for less. Ask about one project, or ask for the next page.

An email about a connection you didn't make

Disconnect it on User Settings → Connections and reset your password, which also disconnects every other agent. Then reconnect the ones you use.
