Bring your Spectr project data into Codex

A coding agent doesn't stop to ask what a ticket meant; it guesses, and a constraint gets dropped. Connect Codex to Spectr's MCP server and it reads the story you are implementing, with its acceptance criteria and the spec sheet behind it, before it writes code. Add the address with the Codex CLI, sign in through Spectr, and pick the workspaces it may use. It reads as you and within your role, writes only if it asked for write access and you approved it, and stops on its next request once you disconnect it.

How Codex fits in

Ask Codex. It answers from Spectr.

Codex adds Spectr's MCP address and signs in through Spectr, where the person picks which workspaces it may use. Asked "Get the acceptance criteria for the rate-limiting story before I start.", it calls list_workspaces, fetch_entities and answers from what it read, as that person and within their role.

How it connects

OAuth, started from the Codex CLI with `codex mcp login`, which opens Spectr's sign-in in your browser. You choose the workspaces there. The sign-in page shows what Codex asks for - read, or read and write - before you approve.

Before you start

The Codex CLI or another Codex client with MCP support. Free to connect on every Spectr plan.

What Spectr reads from Codex

Your workspace data, as you
Stories with their acceptance criteria, the spec sheets and requirements behind them, project memory and the team - whatever your role lets you open in the app, checked again on every call.

Setting it up

  1. Copy your MCP address from User Settings > Connections in Spectr.

  2. Run codex mcp add Spectr --url <address>, then codex mcp login Spectr.

  3. In the browser window that opens, sign in to Spectr and pick the workspaces Codex may use.

  4. Ask Codex for the story you are about to build. It finds the workspace first, then reads the story as you.

Frequently asked questions

Anything else? Email hello@crowdlinker.com and a person will answer.

Can Codex update a story in Spectr while it works?

With the "read and write" permission, yes - it can take the same actions as Spectr's own buttons, such as approving or rejecting a story, each one as you and within your role. Without it, Codex only reads.

Does Codex reading Spectr use up my plan?

No. Reads are free on every plan. Only a write action that starts AI work in Spectr counts toward the workspace's monthly usage, as the same button would.
