Write user stories against your real Figma designs
The distance between "add a filter to the results list" and a story someone can start is usually the design. Connect Figma, pin up to five files, and Spectr reads them every time it drafts - including screenshots of the relevant screens, which go to the model as real images. Stories come back describing your actual layout, states and components instead of guessing at them.
How it connects
OAuth with granular read-only scopes - file content, file metadata, and your user profile. Spectr never writes to a Figma file.
Before you start
No plan requirement. Connections are configured per project, and every credential is encrypted at rest.
What Spectr reads from Figma
- Up to five pinned files
- Added by URL with live validation, so a bad link is caught at setup rather than silently producing no context. File names are re-fetched when you reopen the picker, so a renamed file does not show a stale title.
- Screens as images
- Up to three screenshots of the relevant frames are included in the generation prompt as real images, ahead of any other project imagery, so the model sees the design instead of reading a description of it.
- File structure and content
- Frame and layer names, summarised so the story uses the screen and component names your team already says out loud.
A person approves everything before it is published
Spectr generates specs and stories, then stops. Every story goes to a review page where you approve it, edit it inline, or reject it - individually or in bulk. Only approved stories reach an issue tracker. There is no auto-publish setting to switch on, because a backlog nobody read is not a saving.
Setting it up
In Spectr, open the project and go to Integrations.
Choose Figma and click Connect, then authorise on Figma.
Paste the URL of each file you want pinned - up to five. Spectr validates each one and stores its name.
Generate a spec sheet. Figma screenshots appear in the context the model was given.
Frequently asked questions
Can Spectr edit or comment on my Figma files?
No. The connection is read-only by scope - Spectr can read file content and metadata and nothing else.
Do I need a paid Figma plan?
No. Spectr uses Figma's standard OAuth scopes; any account that can view the file can authorise access to it.
Why does Spectr only send three screenshots?
Images are expensive in a prompt and three relevant screens carry most of the signal. Beyond that, added images crowd out transcript and documentation that matter more.
