Connect your AI agent to Spectr

Spectr runs an MCP server, so the AI agent you already use can read your projects, meetings, requirements, spec sheets and stories, as you. You add one address to your agent and sign in to Spectr once.

Spectr's MCP address

https://mcp.spectr.pm/mcp

The same address is on User Settings → Connections in Spectr, with a copy button. There is no API key to create: your agent signs you in through Spectr, in your browser.

Your agent needs to support remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in. Claude, Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code all do. Any member of a workspace can connect an agent, viewers included.

Claude (claude.ai and the desktop app)

  1. Open Settings → Connectors (on Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds it under Organization settings → Connectors).
  2. Choose Add custom connector, name it Spectr, and paste the address above. Leave the OAuth client fields empty.
  3. Choose Connect and sign in to Spectr in the window that opens.

Custom connectors are on every Claude plan; the Free plan allows one. Anthropic's guide: Get started with custom connectors.

Claude Code

In a terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http Spectr https://mcp.spectr.pm/mcp

Then, inside Claude Code, run /mcp, pick Spectr and choose to authenticate. Your browser opens Spectr to sign in.

Codex

In a terminal, add Spectr as a remote server and then sign in:

codex mcp add Spectr --url https://mcp.spectr.pm/mcp
codex mcp login Spectr

codex mcp login opens Spectr in your browser to sign in - Codex registers itself, so there are no client fields to fill. Run codex mcp list to confirm it is connected, or /mcp inside a Codex session.

ChatGPT

  1. Add a custom MCP server (ChatGPT lists these under Plugins, or Apps and Connectors), and paste the address above.
  2. Choose OAuth for authentication, then sign in to Spectr in the window that opens.

Whether you can add a custom MCP server depends on your ChatGPT plan and, in a business workspace, on your admin; some setups need Developer mode turned on first. OpenAI's guide: Connect to ChatGPT.

Cursor

Add Spectr to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (every project) or .cursor/mcp.json (one project):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "Spectr": {
      "url": "https://mcp.spectr.pm/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Cursor shows a sign-in prompt for Spectr in its MCP settings.

VS Code

Run MCP: Add Server from the Command Palette and choose HTTP, or add Spectr to .vscode/mcp.json:

{
  "servers": {
    "Spectr": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.spectr.pm/mcp"
    }
  }
}

VS Code asks you to sign in to Spectr the first time Copilot uses it.

Other agents

Any agent that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP with OAuth can connect: give it the address above. It finds everything else it needs (where to sign in, what to ask for) from the address itself.

What happens when you connect

  1. Your agent opens Spectr in your browser. Sign in if you aren't already.
  2. Spectr shows who is asking. An agent that identifies itself from a known maker's website (Anthropic, OpenAI, Cursor, GitHub and a few others) is marked as verified. Some agents identify themselves only by name, and Spectr then says it can't confirm who made the app: continue only if you started the connection yourself, just now.
  3. It lists what the agent will be able to do, and asks which workspaces it may use: all my workspaces (including ones you join later) or only the ones you tick.
  4. Choose Connect. Your browser returns to the agent, and Spectr emails you that a new agent was connected.

The agent now appears under AI agents on User Settings → Connections, where you can disconnect it at any time.

Try it

Ask your agent in plain words. For example:

  • "Which Spectr workspaces can you see?"
  • "Summarise the latest requirements for the Atlas project."
  • "Which stories from last week's spec sheet are still pending review?"
  • "How much of our budget is used on each active project?"
  • "What plan is our workspace on, and how much of this month's allowance is left?"
  • "Which workstreams are in progress on the Development board, and which of their stories haven't been sent to Conductor yet?"

The agent asks which workspace you mean when you belong to more than one. See the available tools for everything it can answer.
